Hike across the Kalkkögel mountain range

Just a few kilometres from Innsbruck, yet surprisingly peaceful, the Fotschertal marks the start of an unspoilt mountain landscape that is easily accessible from the city. The route leads across vast alpine slopes, over scenic mountain passes and summits to the striking Kalkkögel, whose light-coloured, rugged rock faces provide a striking contrast to the gentler landscape of the surrounding valleys. A large part of this mountain landscape is under special protection as the Kalkkögel Nature Reserve. Away from roads and mountain railways, there is plenty of space for nature – and for a closer look at the alpine flora and the unique geology of the Kalkkögel. Two cosy huts in the heart of the mountains and the opportunity to tackle additional peaks along the way make this traverse particularly varied.
