„Small, unassuming and rather well situated: Lake Salfeinser has chosen one of the best spots opposite the Kalkkögeln.“

Description

Lake Salfeinser lies on a vast plateau above the Sendertal valley and is known above all for one thing: in calm weather, the jagged rocky peaks of the Kalkkögel are reflected in its surface. Whilst the lake itself is small, the landscape in which it is set is all the more impressive. Whilst the first part of the walk takes you through the forest and past the unmanned Salfeinsalm, the terrain becomes increasingly open as you gain altitude. Once at the top, the view stretches far across the Inn Valley, over to the Karwendel and the surrounding mountain ranges. Directly opposite, the light-coloured, rugged rock faces of the Kalkkögel rise up, forming a striking contrast to the gentle meadows surrounding Lake Salfeinser. At the right time of year, countless heather berries and cranberries can be found here. Lake Salfeinser can also be reached as part of a full-day hike, for example through the peaceful woods from Grinzens, or via the Grieskogel.
