Description

At an altitude of around 2,000 metres, the Zirbenweg trail runs along the tree line from the Patscherkofel towards the Glungezer. Old Swiss stone pines, some of which are centuries old, line the path, with views opening up time and again across the Inn Valley and towards the Nordkette. The gentle gradients make this a pleasant high-altitude walk, where the focus is very much on the landscape. Along the way, you can clearly observe how the vegetation changes as the altitude increases. Swiss stone pines, alpine roses and dwarf shrubs characterise the landscape and offer the chance to get to know some of the typical plants of this altitude zone better. Depending on the season, the Swiss Stone Pine Trail reveals a different side to itself time and again. There are no steep climbs, but the views remain unobstructed over long stretches. This leaves plenty of time along the way to look around, explore and hear a story or two about the Swiss stone pine and life at the tree line.
