Description
Stinging nettle, ground elder, yarrow or ribwort plantain – many of our native wild herbs grow quite inconspicuously in meadows, on the edges of woods and right beside our paths. Once you’ve got to know them a bit better, you’ll suddenly discover a surprising amount of edible and useful plants where before there was simply just greenery.
On our herb walk, we’ll learn to reliably identify selected wild plants and discover how they were traditionally used in cooking and folk medicine – and in some cases, how they’re still used today. We’ll look at typical identifying features, discuss possible mix-ups and discover which parts of the plants can be collected and used, and when. Of course, there’ll also be plenty of old stories, traditional wisdom and the odd taste test or two.
Nature dictates which plants we discover. That’s why the herb walk changes with the seasons – revealing a different side to our native flora time and again, from the first signs of green in spring to seeds and fruits in autumn.
